Dr Erin Saltman is the Director of Programming for the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT). As a practitioner, Dr Saltman works with international stakeholders across tech, government, and civil society to build cross-platform approaches to counter terrorism and violent extremism online. She was formerly Facebook’s Head of Counterterrorism and Dangerous Organizations Policy for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
ABOUT
Dr Erin Saltman is the Director of Programming at the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT). She has worked in academic, NGO, practitioner and tech sector roles, - developing research and programmatic approaches for counter-extremism and counterterrorism efforts online and off.
She was formerly Facebook’s Head of Counterterrorism and Dangerous Organizations Policy for Europe, the Middle East and Africa; working with multi-sector stakeholders and building out CVE programs for Facebook in partnership with international NGOs.
Dr Saltman’s background and expertise includes extremist processes of radicalization within a range of regional, ideological and socio-political contexts. Her research and publications have focused on the evolving nature of online extremism, gender dynamics within violent extremist groups and youth radicalization. She is dedicated to data-driven approaches for measuring and evaluating counter-extremism and counterterrorism efforts.
Dr Saltman holds a PhD from University College London (UCL) in political science. She holds a dual MA from UCL and Corvinus University as an Erasmus Mundus Scholar. She completed her BA in International Relations from Columbia University.
